Aikido has been translated as The Way of Unifying with Life Energy, The Art of Peace, The Way of Centering or Moving Zen. It is a martial art that is performed by blending into the motion of the opponent and redirecting the force of the attack. Aikido is also one particular Path of Truth in the Buddhist sense. It is a warrior’s path, yet one which leads us to love our opponent, meet hostility with peaceful reconciliation and reach harmony in challenging situations. Inside the Dojo, a place of awakening, at Fivelements, you will learn various movements that correspond with daily life experiences and gain new tools for living in harmony. Made Janur combines the traditional martial art with the spirit and philosophies of Bali. These training sessions are designed to bring about greater selfawareness, strengthen inner power and deepen your connection with others.

The term Somatic derives from the ancient Greek means the living body in its wholeness. In Somatic Therapy we deepen our whole body awareness through dialogue, movements, and practices. This enables us shift old patterns that no longer serve us well and make choices towards the life we want to live. Understanding the body, mind, emotions and spirit as an integrated whole, or soma, is essential for our health and having a sense of meaning in our life. We teach clients the language of sensations, where they can more easily find presence, calling and change conditioning that is no longer useful.

Native to Bali, Made Janur embodies Eastern philosophy blended with Western lifestyle. As a certified Somatic Coach from the Strozzi Institute in the United States, Made Janur has extensive experience working with individuals as well as groups of all sizes. He is exceptional at facilitating a transformational healing process and supporting individuals toward their highest potential. He is also passionate about encouraging adults and young people to declare and achieve their life goals and to make this world a better place to live. He has embarked upon the mission to unleash the power of younger generations in Indonesia through these embodied leadership practices. Janur also loves outdoor activities and a sense of adventure. Made Janur combines his background as certified Somatic Coach by Strozzi Institute in California with Aikido. He considers Aikido as a spiritual path and as a metaphor for daily life.

Yin Yoga

Yin Yoga is part of a larger concept of Yoga that can be called Taoist Yoga. In Taoism, all things can be described by their mutually complementary Yin and Yang aspects. Yin Yoga recognizes the difference between the Yin and Yang tissues of our body. Most forms of Yoga practiced today are Yang, emphasizing muscular movement and contraction. Yin Yoga, by contrast, targets the opening and releasing of the more fibrous joints, ligaments and connective tissues of the hips, thighs, pelvis and lower spine. Yin and Yang tissues do not respond to training in the same way, and one’s yoga practice becomes more effective when the difference is understood. Yin postures are held passively and relatively longer, thus it is known as a ‘quiet practice’ and as a great aid for learning to sit in meditation as it draws our attention toward our innermost landscape of a yoga practice. It is a gentle yet energizing system, stimulating not only the physical body but also on an energetic level what are known as the meridians as well.

Sequences in a Yin Practice are often likened to doing an acupuncture session on yourself, thus it has both preventive and restorative qualities. They are geared toward stimulating certain energy channels, such as the Kidney Meridian, the Liver Meridian or the Stomach Meridian, which ultimately support the organs, immune system and emotional wellbeing. The surrender and stillness in Yin Yoga also enhance our ability to feel deeply attentive to our bodies, diminishing our stress levels and allowing our system to discharge excess tensions built up through unaware living as well as past traumas that are locked inside us. This unhurried attitude brings us into mindfulness – calming, balancing, and enhancing the overall quality of Chi. Healthy Chi (also known as Prana in the Indian system) is both strong and fluid, nourishing and balancing the functions of all organs and systems simultaneously.

Yin & Yang Yoga

Yin & Yang Yoga explores polarity in our body by activating Yin and Yang energies, learning stillness in movement and the flow in stillness. This Yin to Yang sequence deepens our yoga experience by carrying over our ability to surrender in Yin into our dynamic (Yang/Flow) practice. Marrying meditation and asanas (postures) into a very deep practice, this approach challenges us to rethink what asana is about, challenging us to pure presence of awareness both in stillness and in movement. It also gives us a new edge to work with our yoga practice: deeper into where we are, not out to where we think we should be.
